About this tool
For each video, YouTube keeps a handful of preview images at set dimensions: an HD one at 1280×720, a standard one at 640×480, a high-quality one at 480×360 and two smaller variants. Paste a link and all of them are laid out with a preview, so you can pick the exact size for a slide, an article, a playlist cover or a reference folder.
The images are not resized or re-compressed on the way — you download the original JPEG straight from YouTube’s servers. Note that the 1280×720 version only exists for HD uploads; when it is missing, the page says so and offers the largest size that does exist.

Questions about this tool
Why is there no 1280×720 option for my video?
YouTube only generates the HD thumbnail for videos uploaded in HD. Low-resolution or older uploads have the smaller sizes only.
Can I grab thumbnails from Shorts or YouTube Music?
Yes — any link to a YouTube video works, including Shorts and music.youtube.com addresses.
Is this the creator’s custom thumbnail or an auto-generated frame?
Whatever YouTube shows for the video. If the creator uploaded a custom thumbnail, that is what you get.
Can I use someone’s thumbnail in my own work?
Thumbnails belong to their creators. Use them only with permission or where the law allows it.
