About this tool
When you plan to cut, layer, pitch-shift or otherwise work on a piece of audio, you want it in a format that will not degrade each time you save. WAV is that format. Bear in mind that YouTube streams compressed audio, so the WAV holds exactly the detail of the source and no more; the benefit is a file that opens instantly in any audio software and survives endless editing without further loss.
Expect large files: around 10 MB for every minute at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo. If you just want to listen, MP3 or M4A gives you a fraction of the size.

Questions about this tool
Will WAV sound better than the MP3?
Not noticeably — both come from the same YouTube stream. What WAV gives you is the absence of a second compression stage, which matters once you start editing and exporting.
How large is a typical WAV download?
Roughly 10 MB per minute, so a five-minute track is about 50 MB.
Which format specs does the WAV use?
Stereo, 44.1 kHz sample rate, 16-bit depth — the same specification as an audio CD.
Can I sample this audio in my own music?
Only if you own the rights or have permission. Some creators release their work under Creative Commons — the video description usually says so.
